Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Qufeng Zhitong Jiaonang is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) capsule formulation used primarily for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain and disorders attributed to wind-cold-damp obstruction and liver-kidney deficiency, such as arthralgia, joint swelling, lumbar and knee pain, limb numbness, and related symptoms. The formula contains seven herbal ingredients: Geranium wilfordii (老鹳草), Viscum coloratum (槲寄生), Dipsacus asper (续断), Clematis chinensis (威灵仙), Angelica pubescens (独活), processed Aconitum kusnezoffii root (制草乌), and Carthamus tinctorius flower (红花). Its mechanism of action is believed to involve anti-inflammatory effects, inhibition of proinflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-6, modulation of the MAPK signaling pathway, improvement in blood circulation, dispelling wind-cold-dampness from meridians/collaterals according to TCM theory, strengthening muscles/bones by nourishing liver/kidney function[1][2][5][7]. Modern pharmacological studies suggest it may ameliorate rheumatoid arthritis by inhibiting inflammatory responses at the cellular level[7].
