quinapril

Quinapril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor prodrug used primarily to treat hypertension and heart failure. It is also indicated for slowing the progression of renal disease. Quinapril works by inhibiting ACE, which catalyzes the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II—a potent vasoconstrictor—thereby reducing blood pressure and decreasing aldosterone secretion. This leads to vasodilation, reduced sodium and fluid retention, and improved cardiac efficiency. Quinapril was developed as a first-line therapy for high blood pressure and can be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents such as thiazide diuretics or beta blockers[1][3][4][5][7].
