quinaprilat

Quinaprilat is the active metabolite of quinapril, an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. Quinapril itself is a prodrug that is rapidly hydrolyzed in vivo to form quinaprilat, which exerts the pharmacological effects. Quinaprilat inhibits ACE, thereby blocking the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II—a potent vasoconstrictor—and reducing the breakdown of bradykinin. This leads to vasodilation, decreased blood pressure, and reduced workload on the heart. It is primarily used for treating hypertension and as adjunct therapy in heart failure[5]. The drug also slows progression of renal disease in certain populations.
