Overview
Limptar N is a small molecule drug containing quinine sulfate, a natural alkaloid derived from cinchona bark. It is primarily indicated for the therapy and prophylaxis of skeletal muscle cramps, particularly nocturnal leg cramps in adults. The drug works by reducing excitability at the skeletal muscle and neuromuscular junction, which decreases the responsiveness of muscle cells to stimuli and increases the muscle's refractory period. Developed by Cassella-med, Limptar N is available over-the-counter in German pharmacies. Beyond its approved use for muscle cramps, it has been investigated in Phase 3 clinical trials in Germany for the treatment of fibromyalgia, evaluating its efficacy in reducing pain and tenderness using assessments such as the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire.
