Overview

Quinolixin is a novel small molecule alpha-1A adrenergic receptor antagonist developed by the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM), Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is specifically designed for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and associated lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). By selectively inhibiting the alpha-1A receptors located in the smooth muscle of the prostate and bladder neck, quinolixin promotes muscle relaxation, which improves urinary flow and reduces obstructive symptoms. As of 2024, the drug is in Phase 2 clinical development in China (e.g., trial CTR20241404), where its efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics are being evaluated in comparison to silodosin, a highly selective alpha-1A blocker.
