Overview

Quintovac is a pentavalent (5-component) pediatric vaccine developed by KM Biologics for the prevention of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, poliomyelitis, and invasive diseases caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib). It combines the components of a DPT-IPV vaccine (diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, acellular pertussis, and inactivated poliovirus) with a Hib conjugate vaccine. Approved in Japan in 2023, Quintovac is part of a simplified immunization schedule designed to reduce the number of injections required for infants. The vaccine induces active immunity by presenting purified antigens and toxoids to the immune system, stimulating the production of specific antibodies against the five target pathogens. The poliovirus component utilizes inactivated Sabin strains, and the Hib component consists of the capsular polysaccharide of Haemophilus influenzae type b conjugated to a tetanus toxoid carrier protein to enhance immunogenicity in young children.
