Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**QuitPak** is an investigational extended-release oral fixed-dose combination of **bupropion hydrochloride** and **mecamylamine hydrochloride** developed for tobacco use disorder and smoking cessation. Bupropion inhibits norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake and antagonizes neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, while mecamylamine is a noncompetitive, nonselective neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist intended to reduce nicotine reinforcement and withdrawal-related craving. Cary Pharmaceuticals developed the product with IntelGenx, which developed the extended-release tablet formulation; public reports document a Phase 1 pharmacokinetic pilot study and later sources identify the program as having reached Phase 2 development.
