Overview

Qushi-jiangzhuo is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula, most commonly encountered as Qushi Jiangzhuo Granules (or Keli), developed for the management of hyperuricemia, gouty arthritis, and chronic kidney disease. The formula is based on the TCM principle of "dispelling dampness and lowering turbidity," which aims to clear metabolic waste from the body. Modern pharmacological research indicates that qushi-jiangzhuo exerts its therapeutic effects by inhibiting the renal urate transporters URAT1 (SLC22A12) and GLUT9 (SLC2A9), thereby promoting the excretion of uric acid in the urine. Additionally, it demonstrates anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway and reducing the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β. It has been extensively studied in clinical trials in China, particularly at the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine.
