Overview

Qushi-Jiangzhuo Decoction (QSJZD) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by the Affiliated Second People's Hospital of Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of gouty arthritis and hyperuricemia. The decoction is formulated based on the TCM principles of dispelling dampness ("Qushi") and lowering turbidity ("Jiangzhuo"), which are central to addressing the metabolic and inflammatory imbalances associated with gout. Pharmacologically, QSJZD exerts its therapeutic effects through multiple pathways: it lowers serum uric acid levels by inhibiting xanthine oxidase activity and modulating renal urate transporters such as URAT1. Furthermore, it possesses significant anti-inflammatory properties, primarily by suppressing the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome and reducing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-1β and TNF-α. Recent research also indicates that the decoction may improve metabolic health by regulating gut microbiota composition and maintaining intestinal barrier integrity.
