Drug intelligence / Profile preview
QX-4533 is an orally bioavailable small molecule agonist of the G protein-coupled receptor 119 (GPR119), currently under development by QuantX Biosciences for the treatment of metabolic disorders, including type 2 diabetes and obesity. GPR119 is a G protein-coupled receptor primarily expressed in the enteroendocrine L-cells of the gastrointestinal tract and the beta cells of the pancreas. Activation of GPR119 by QX-4533 triggers the glucose-dependent secretion of incretin hormones, such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), while also directly enhancing insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells. This dual mechanism of action is designed to improve glycemic control and metabolic health. As of 2024, QX-4533 is being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy participants.
