Overview

R-1487 is an orally bioavailable small molecule inhibitor that selectively targets the p38α mitogen‑activated protein kinase (MAPK14), a key enzyme in the MAP kinase signal transduction pathway. This pathway regulates cellular responses to pro-inflammatory cytokines and physical stress by activating transcription factors and modulating protein turnover. R‑1487 was developed for potential use in immune system diseases, particularly rheumatoid arthritis, but its clinical development was discontinued after reaching phase I trials. The drug was initially developed by F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd.[1][3][4][5]
