Drug intelligence / Profile preview
R-5280 is an orally administered live biotherapeutic product (LBP) developed by Rise Therapeutics for the treatment of newly diagnosed Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). The drug consists of an engineered strain of *Lactococcus lactis* designed to deliver specific immunomodulatory signals directly to the gut-associated lymphoid tissue (GALT). By engaging the intestinal immune system, R-5280 aims to induce the expansion of antigen-specific regulatory T cells (Tregs) that can suppress the autoimmune destruction of pancreatic beta cells. This approach is intended to preserve endogenous insulin production and mitigate the progression of T1D in patients with recent-onset disease.
