Drug intelligence / Profile preview
R-5780 is an orally administered, precision-directed synthetic biology medicine developed for cancer immunotherapy. It is designed to activate gut-regulated immune pathways that support robust anti-tumor T cell responses and enhance the effectiveness of immune checkpoint inhibitors. The drug leverages emerging insights into the role of the gut in regulating systemic immunity, aiming to expand responses in patients who become refractory to immune checkpoint inhibitors and increase responsiveness in tumors initially unresponsive to these medications. R-5780 represents a novel approach within immuno-oncology by utilizing synthetic biology techniques for targeted activation of specific immune pathways. It is currently being evaluated in a phase 1 clinical trial (NCT06398418) for patients with solid tumors, including melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma[1][2][3][4][5].
