Overview

R-biolin is a biosimilar short-acting human insulin developed by R'BIO (rBIO), a Houston-based biotechnology company. It is designed to be bioequivalent to Novolin R, a reference biologic manufactured by Novo Nordisk. R-biolin works by binding to and activating the insulin receptor, which facilitates glucose uptake into cells and lowers blood glucose levels. The drug is produced using R'BIO's proprietary synthetic biology expression platform, which aims to achieve higher yields and significantly lower production costs compared to traditional methods. As of early 2024, the candidate has completed preclinical validation and is slated for first-in-human clinical trials in the second half of 2025 for the treatment of diabetes.
