R-mandelic acid

(R)-Mandelic acid is the R-enantiomer of mandelic acid, a hydroxycarboxylic (alpha-hydroxy) organic compound with the chemical formula C8H8O3. It is a colorless crystalline solid that is soluble in water and various organic solvents. Mandelic acids are used as intermediates in pharmaceutical synthesis and as active ingredients in dermatological products due to their antimicrobial properties. The R-enantiomer can be produced synthetically or resolved from racemic mixtures. In medicine, mandelic acids have been used for urinary tract infections because of their antibacterial activity and are also utilized in skincare for acne treatment and anti-aging effects[1][3]. The mechanism of action primarily involves disruption of bacterial cell wall synthesis (antimicrobial effect) and exfoliation via alpha hydroxy acid activity.
