Drug intelligence / Profile preview
R21 + AS01B is a malaria vaccine formulation combining the R21 antigen with the AS01B adjuvant. R21 is a malaria vaccine candidate that targets the circumsporozoite protein (CSP) of the Plasmodium parasite, which blocks the parasite from entering the liver. The R21 component consists of virus-like particles built from scaffolding derived from the hepatitis B virus, with a high proportion of malaria protein antigen (CSP) on its surface. While R21 is more commonly paired with Matrix-M adjuvant in clinical trials, this specific formulation uses AS01B, which is a liposomal adjuvant containing the immunostimulants MPL and QS-21.
