R3R01 is an investigational small molecule drug developed for the treatment of kidney diseases, specifically Alport syndrome and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), as well as diabetic kidney disease. Its mechanism of action involves stimulating ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1), which increases cholesterol efflux from intracellular spaces in the kidney. This process reduces lipid accumulation in renal cells, potentially improving kidney function and reducing proteinuria. Preclinical studies have shown that decreasing fat levels in certain kidney cells can mitigate cell injury and preserve renal function. The drug is currently being evaluated in phase 2 clinical trials for its safety, tolerability, efficacy, and pharmacokinetics when administered orally as a tablet[1][2][4][5][6][7].
