rAAV-CYP2J2 is an experimental gene therapy consisting of a recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) vector, typically serotype 2, designed to deliver the human cytochrome P450 epoxygenase 2J2 (CYP2J2) gene. CYP2J2 is a key enzyme that metabolizes arachidonic acid into four regioisomeric epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs), which are bioactive lipids with potent vasodilatory, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, and anti-fibrotic properties. In preclinical models of chronic renal failure and hypertension, delivery of rAAV-CYP2J2 has been shown to increase EET generation, attenuate blood pressure elevation, and protect against renal damage by inhibiting TGF-β1/SMAD signaling and reducing glomerular sclerosis. The therapy is primarily investigated for its potential in treating chronic kidney disease and associated cardiovascular disorders.
