rAAV-s10Panx1 is a recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) gene therapy vector designed to reduce the expression of Pannexin-1 (Panx1). Pannexin-1 is a membrane channel protein that facilitates the release of ATP into the extracellular space. In the context of asthma, extracellular ATP (eATP) acts as a danger signal that promotes airway inflammation, eosinophilia, and airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR). By delivering a genetic payload (likely an shRNA, indicated by the "s10" nomenclature) to knock down Panx1 expression in lung tissues, rAAV-s10Panx1 aims to limit eATP accumulation and alleviate asthmatic symptoms. Research conducted at China Medical University has demonstrated its efficacy in reducing Th2 cytokine production and inflammatory responses in murine models of asthma.
