rAAV2-hIL15 is a recombinant gene therapy vector utilizing adeno-associated virus serotype 2 (AAV2) to deliver the human interleukin-15 (hIL15) gene. Interleukin-15 is a potent cytokine that stimulates the proliferation and activation of natural killer (NK) cells and CD8+ T cells, which are critical for anti-tumor immunity. The use of an AAV2 vector is intended to overcome the short systemic half-life of recombinant IL-15 protein by providing sustained, long-term expression of the cytokine in vivo. Preclinical research has demonstrated that rAAV2-hIL15 can activate lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cells and inhibit tumor growth in transgenic mouse models of breast cancer.
