Overview

Rabdomun is an inactivated rabies vaccine developed for veterinary use to provide active immunization against rabies in various animal species, including dogs, cats, cattle, horses, and other livestock. Originally manufactured by Coopers Animal Health and currently associated with MSD Animal Health (Merck), the vaccine is formulated using the Flury LEP (low egg passage) strain of the rabies virus, which is inactivated and produced in cell culture. It functions by stimulating the animal's immune system to produce neutralizing antibodies against the rabies virus, thereby preventing infection upon exposure. The vaccine is administered via intramuscular or subcutaneous injection and may contain human-derived albumin as a stabilizer. Variants such as Rabdomun 3 are designed to provide extended protection for up to three years.
