This extract is primarily studied in academic research for its potential to reverse multidrug resistance (MDR) in various cancers, including breast cancer. Its mechanism involves the inhibition of P-glycoprotein (P-gp) efflux activity and the down-regulation of MDR1 gene expression, which enhances the intracellular accumulation and efficacy of co-administered chemotherapeutic agents like adriamycin. The fraction contains a complex mixture of bioactive secondary metabolites, notably terpenoids and flavonoids.
