Overview
Rabekhan Duo is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical developed by JW Pharmaceutical, a subsidiary of JW Holdings, for the management of acid-related gastrointestinal disorders. It consists of rabeprazole sodium, a second-generation proton pump inhibitor (PPI), and sodium bicarbonate, which acts as an antacid buffer. Rabeprazole works by covalently binding to and irreversibly inhibiting the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system (the proton pump) at the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells, thereby blocking the final step of gastric acid production. The addition of sodium bicarbonate serves to neutralize gastric acid and protect the acid-labile rabeprazole from degradation in the stomach. This buffering mechanism allows for an immediate-release profile, facilitating rapid absorption and a faster onset of acid suppression compared to traditional enteric-coated PPI formulations. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastric ulcers, and duodenal ulcers.
