Overview
Rabeprazole sodium + levosulpiride is a fixed-dose combination therapy primarily used in the management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). The combination pairs rabeprazole sodium, a substituted benzimidazole proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell, with levosulpiride, the levo-enantiomer of sulpiride. Levosulpiride acts as a selective dopamine D2 receptor antagonist with prokinetic properties, increasing the lower esophageal sphincter tone and accelerating gastric emptying by enhancing acetylcholine release. This dual mechanism addresses both acid-related mucosal damage and underlying motility disorders. The product is widely manufactured and distributed in India by companies such as Laksun Lifesciences, typically in a capsule format containing 20 mg of rabeprazole and 75 mg of sustained-release levosulpiride.
