Overview
This is a freeze-dried (lyophilized) inactivated rabies vaccine for human use developed by Chongqing Zhifei Biological Products and manufactured by its subsidiary Anhui Zhifei Longcom Biopharmaceutical. The vaccine is produced using the MRC-5 human diploid cell line inoculated with a fixed strain of the rabies virus. The manufacturing process involves cell cultivation, virus harvesting, concentration, inactivation, purification, and freeze-drying. It is designed to induce neutralizing antibodies for both post-exposure and pre-exposure prophylaxis against rabies infection. Phase III clinical trials were completed in January 2022, demonstrating immunogenicity and safety in participants aged 10-60 years using both the 5-dose Essen and 4-dose Zagreb regimens.
