Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The freeze-dried human rabies vaccine (serum-free Vero cell) is an inactivated viral vaccine developed by Ningbo Rong'an Biological Pharmaceutical (a subsidiary of AIM Vaccine) for the prevention of rabies. Unlike traditional Vero cell-based rabies vaccines that utilize animal serum (such as newborn calf serum) during the cell culture process, this iterative vaccine is produced using a serum-free Vero cell culture platform. This formulation eliminates animal serum residues, thereby significantly reducing the risk of allergic reactions and other adverse events associated with heterologous proteins. The vaccine has completed Phase III clinical trials in China, demonstrating favorable safety, immunogenicity, and immunological persistence, and its new drug application (NDA) was accepted by the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in April 2025.
