Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The Hualan rabies vaccine (Vero cell) is an inactivated, freeze-dried vaccine developed by Hualan Biological Bacterin Co. Ltd. for human rabies prophylaxis. Produced using a continuous Vero cell line in large-scale bioreactors, the vaccine features a specialized three-step purification process that ensures ultra-low DNA content and an antibiotic-free formulation, enhancing its safety profile. It is indicated for both pre-exposure and post-exposure immunization. In Phase 3 clinical trials, the vaccine was evaluated in both a traditional 5-dose intramuscular regimen (administered on days 0, 3, 7, 14, and 28) and an accelerated 4-dose (2-1-1) regimen (two doses on day 0, one on day 7, and one on day 21) against a marketed control vaccine. The Hualan vaccine has received a Drug Registration Certificate in China and is available for clinical use.
