Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A next-generation inactivated rabies vaccine produced using Vero cell culture technology in a serum-free medium. Developed primarily by Sanofi (as VRVg-2) and Ningbo Rong'an Biopharmaceutical, this vaccine is designed for both pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) of rabies. The serum-free manufacturing process aims to improve safety by eliminating animal-derived components and enhancing consistency compared to traditional Vero cell vaccines like Verorab. It works by inducing rabies virus neutralizing antibodies (RVNA) to provide immunity against the rabies virus.
