A preclinical **oral, gut-targeted rabies virus-like particle vaccine** developed by academic researchers for vaccination of rabies animal reservoirs, including stray and wild animals. The antigen comprises rabies virus-like particles self-assembled from rabies virus glycoprotein and matrix protein. The VLPs are co-formulated with the mucosal adjuvant LTB in pH-responsive Eudragit L100 and PLGA microparticles intended to protect the antigen in the stomach and release it in the intestine. In mice, intragastric administration induced antigen-specific humoral, cellular, and mucosal immune responses, including anti-RVLP IgG, IFN-gamma, IL-4, increased CD4-positive and CD8-positive T-cell responses, and intestinal and fecal secretory IgA.
