Rabies virus strain PM‑1503‑3M is an inactivated (beta-propiolactone-inactivated) rabies virus derived from the Pitman Moore (Wistar) lineage, used as the active component in several human diploid cell culture-based vaccines for pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis against rabies. The vaccine is produced by propagating the virus in human diploid cells (such as MRC‑5 or WI‑38), followed by concentration and chemical inactivation. It induces a robust immune response with high titers of neutralizing antibodies, providing effective protection against rabies infection when administered according to recommended schedules. This strain was originally developed at The Wistar Institute and has been widely adopted globally for its safety and efficacy profile[2][4][5][6].
