Overview

RABORAL V-RG is an oral recombinant vaccine designed for the mass immunization of wildlife against rabies. Developed by Boehringer Ingelheim (formerly Merial), the vaccine utilizes a live vaccinia virus vector that has been genetically engineered to express the rabies virus glycoprotein (G protein). When ingested by target species such as raccoons, coyotes, or foxes via edible baits, the vaccine induces a protective immune response against rabies virus infection. It is a critical tool in public health programs aimed at controlling and eliminating specific rabies variants in wild animal populations across North America and Europe. The vaccine is distributed exclusively to government agencies and is not available for purchase by the general public.
