Overview

Raceanisodamine (also known as racanisodamine or 7β-hydroxyhyoscyamine) is a tropane alkaloid and a derivative of hyoscyamine, developed and primarily used in China. It acts as a non-specific muscarinic receptor antagonist (anticholinergic), relaxing smooth muscle, relieving vasospasm, and improving microcirculation. Its main clinical indications include the treatment of septic shock, acute disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), myopia progression in children, and other circulatory disorders. Raceanisodamine also exhibits weak alpha(1) adrenergic antagonism contributing to its vasodilatory effects. Additional proposed uses include organophosphate poisoning antidote, migraine relief, gastrointestinal colic management, acute glomerular nephritis therapy, eclampsia support, respiratory diseases treatment, rheumatoid arthritis management, obstructive jaundice therapy, opiate addiction support therapy, snake bite antidote use and radiation damage protection[1][2][4][5][8]. The drug has been approved for use in China since at least 1981[5].
