Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Racemic hydroxymethionine calcium (DL-α-hydroxymethionine calcium) is a small molecule calcium salt formulation developed and manufactured by Hebei Yipin Pharmaceutical. It serves as a nitrogen-free analog of the essential amino acid methionine. In the body, it is converted into L-methionine through transamination, a metabolic process that consumes amino groups from non-essential amino acids or urea precursors. This mechanism is primarily utilized in the management of chronic kidney disease (CKD) to provide necessary amino acids while reducing the nitrogenous load on the kidneys, thereby helping to control uremia and slow the progression of renal failure. It is typically administered as part of a keto-amino acid regimen in conjunction with a low-protein diet to prevent protein malnutrition in patients with impaired renal function.
