Drug intelligence / Profile preview
RAD-A (Reconstitution Auto-Injector Device) is a drug-device combination product developed by Kaléo, specifically designed for the rapid delivery of reconstituted therapeutics in emergency scenarios such as nerve agent poisoning. The device utilizes a novel reconstitution technology that allows the active drug—most notably atropine sulfate—to be stored in a dry, stable format and automatically mixed into a liquid solution immediately prior to intramuscular injection. This approach significantly extends the shelf life and stability of the medication under extreme environmental conditions compared to traditional liquid-filled auto-injectors. In July 2023, Kaléo was awarded a $39 million contract by the U.S. Department of Defense to develop this next-generation medical countermeasure, which is intended to counteract the effects of organophosphorus nerve agents and insecticides.
