Radio Salil

Radio Salil is a topical analgesic and rubefacient combination product developed and marketed by Laboratorios Viñas. It is indicated for the local symptomatic relief of muscle and joint pain, including conditions such as lumbago, torticollis, strains, and sprains. The formulation typically comprises methyl salicylate, menthol, salicylic acid, camphor, and methyl nicotinate. These components work through multiple mechanisms: methyl salicylate and salicylic acid inhibit cyclooxygenase enzymes to reduce prostaglandin-mediated inflammation and pain; menthol and camphor act as counter-irritants by stimulating thermal receptors (TRPM8 and TRPV1, respectively); and methyl nicotinate induces local vasodilation (rubefacient effect), which enhances blood flow to the affected area and promotes a warming sensation.
