Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Radium-224 labelled calcium carbonate microparticles (Radspherin) is an investigational, receptor-independent, alpha-emitting radiopharmaceutical developed by Oncoinvent. It consists of biodegradable calcium carbonate (CaCO3) microparticles labeled with the alpha-emitting radionuclide radium-224 (224Ra). Administered intraperitoneally following cytoreductive surgery, the microparticles distribute throughout the peritoneal cavity, acting as a local depot that delivers short-range, high-energy alpha radiation to eradicate residual micrometastases and free-floating cancer cells while sparing surrounding healthy tissues. It is primarily being evaluated for the treatment of peritoneal carcinomatosis originating from ovarian and colorectal cancers.
