Raksha-IBR is an inactivated, glycoprotein-E (gE)-deleted marker vaccine developed by Indian Immunologicals Limited in collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). It is designed to protect cattle against Bovine Herpesvirus-1 (BoHV-1), the causative agent of Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR). As India's first indigenous DIVA (Differentiating Infected from Vaccinated Animals) vaccine, it incorporates a genetic deletion of the gE surface protein, which allows for serological differentiation between naturally infected animals and those that have been vaccinated. The vaccine is intended to mitigate the clinical impacts of IBR, including respiratory distress, infertility, abortions, and significant reductions in milk yield. Clinical data indicates that the vaccine is safe for use in cattle over three months of age and provides protective antibody titers for at least six months following a two-dose primary regimen.
