Overview

Raltegravir + abacavir is a combination of two antiretroviral drugs used in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Raltegravir is an HIV integrase strand transfer inhibitor that blocks the integration of viral DNA into the host genome, thereby preventing viral replication[2][6]. Abacavir is a nucleoside analogue reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) that inhibits HIV reverse transcriptase, blocking viral RNA from being converted into DNA and thus halting replication[4]. This combination is often used with lamivudine as part of highly active antiretroviral therapy regimens for adults living with HIV due to its high virological efficacy and good tolerability profile[5][8]. The primary indication for this drug combination is the management and suppression of HIV infection.
