Overview

This drug is a combination of three antiretroviral agents used in the treatment of HIV-1 infection. It consists of: - **Raltegravir**: An integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI) that blocks the action of HIV integrase, an enzyme necessary for viral DNA integration into the host genome, thereby preventing viral replication. - **Abacavir** and **Lamivudine**: Both are nucleoside analogue reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). They inhibit reverse transcriptase, an enzyme required for converting viral RNA into DNA, thus blocking a critical step in the HIV life cycle. The combination is primarily used as part of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) for people living with HIV-1. Clinical studies have shown that switching to this regimen in virologically suppressed patients maintains high rates of virological suppression and has a favorable safety and tolerability profile[1][3][5]. This regimen is not available as a single fixed-dose tablet but rather as co-administered individual drugs.
