Overview

Ramatroban is a small molecule drug that acts as a dual antagonist of the thromboxane A2 (TP) receptor and the prostaglandin D2 receptor subtype DP2 (also known as CRTH2). It was originally developed for cardiovascular indications but is primarily marketed in Japan for allergic rhinitis under the brand name Baynas. The drug competitively inhibits both TP and DP2 receptors to reduce inflammation and platelet aggregation. Its mechanism of action makes it useful in conditions involving proinflammatory or prothrombotic processes. Ramatroban has also been investigated for asthma and coronary artery disease and is currently being studied for potential use in COVID‑19 pneumonia due to its anti-inflammatory properties[1][2][8].
