Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tonotec HCT is a fixed-dose combination antihypertensive medication developed and marketed by Apontis Pharma. It contains three active ingredients: ramipril, amlodipine, and hydrochlorothiazide. Ramipril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that prevents the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor, thereby reducing peripheral vascular resistance. Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, resulting in peripheral vasodilation. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that acts on the distal convoluted tubule of the kidney to inhibit sodium and chloride reabsorption, leading to increased sodium and water excretion and a reduction in extracellular fluid volume. This triple combination is indicated for the treatment of hypertension in patients whose blood pressure is not sufficiently controlled by dual therapy.
