ramosetron

Ramosetron is a potent and highly selective second-generation serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. It works by blocking 5-HT3 receptors on the vagus nerve terminals in the gastrointestinal tract and in the chemoreceptor trigger zone of the central nervous system, thereby inhibiting the emetic reflex. Developed by Astellas Pharma, it is primarily used for the prevention and treatment of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) and postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). Additionally, it is indicated for the treatment of diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D) due to its ability to slow colonic transit and improve stool consistency. More recently, it has been investigated for the management of low anterior resection syndrome (LARS) following rectal cancer surgery, where it helps alleviate symptoms of urgency and frequent defecation.
