Ramucirumab + docetaxel is a combination therapy used primarily for the treatment of advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in patients who have progressed after platinum-based chemotherapy. Ramucirumab is a human IgG1 monoclonal antibody that targets and antagonizes vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR-2), thereby inhibiting angiogenesis, which is critical for tumor growth and metastasis. Docetaxel is a cytotoxic small molecule chemotherapeutic agent that promotes microtubule assembly while inhibiting their disassembly, leading to apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. The combination has demonstrated improved survival as second-line therapy for stage IV NSCLC and may also be used in other cancers such as gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma.
