rANDV-44 is a recombinant human monoclonal antibody (mAb) developed for the treatment and prevention of Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS) caused by the Andes virus (ANDV). Isolated from the B cells of a survivor of ANDV infection, this antibody specifically targets the envelope glycoproteins (Gn and Gc) of the virus. By binding to these glycoproteins, rANDV-44 neutralizes the virus and prevents its entry into host cells. Preclinical studies in Syrian hamster models have demonstrated that the antibody provides potent post-exposure protection against lethal ANDV challenge. It is currently being evaluated in early-phase clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in humans, representing a potential first-in-class therapeutic for this high-fatality infectious disease.
