Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ranferon-12 is an oral hematinic fixed-dose combination product containing iron (as ferric ammonium citrate or ferrous fumarate), folic acid (vitamin B9), and cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12). Some formulations, particularly the capsules, also include ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and zinc sulfate to enhance absorption and support cellular metabolism. It is primarily indicated for the prevention and treatment of iron deficiency anemia, nutritional anemias, and megaloblastic anemia, especially during periods of high physiological demand such as pregnancy, infancy, and childhood. The iron component replenishes depleted systemic iron stores and supports hemoglobin synthesis, while folic acid and vitamin B12 serve as essential cofactors for DNA synthesis and red blood cell maturation. Originally developed by Ranbaxy Laboratories (now part of Sun Pharma), Ranferon-12 is widely marketed as a syrup, elixir, or capsule to support healthy erythropoiesis and overall blood health.
