Overview

Ranibizumab + laser refers to the combination therapy of intravitreal ranibizumab injections with retinal laser photocoagulation, primarily used for the treatment of retinal vascular diseases such as diabetic macular edema (DME) and macular edema secondary to branch retinal vein occlusion. Ranibizumab is a monoclonal antibody fragment that inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), thereby reducing abnormal blood vessel growth and leakage in the retina. Laser therapy, including focal/grid or micropulse techniques, targets leaky or abnormal blood vessels in the retina to reduce edema and prevent further vision loss. The combination aims to improve visual outcomes, reduce injection frequency, and enhance safety compared to monotherapy[1][2][6]. Ranibizumab was developed by Genentech/Roche.
