Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PF582 is a biosimilar of ranibizumab, which is a monoclonal antibody fragment that inhibits vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A). By blocking VEGF-A, it prevents angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels), which is implicated in several retinal diseases. PF582 was developed as a biosimilar to Lucentis (ranibizumab) for the treatment of ophthalmologic conditions such as wet age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema, and retinal edema. The drug demonstrated comparable safety and efficacy to Lucentis in phase 1/2 trials but its development has been discontinued[1][2][3][6].
