Rantac

Rantac is a branded formulation of ranitidine, a small-molecule histamine H2-receptor antagonist used to reduce gastric acid secretion in the treatment and prevention of peptic ulcer disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, and other hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger–Ellison syndrome. Ranitidine competitively and reversibly blocks histamine H2 receptors on gastric parietal cells, leading to decreased basal, nocturnal, and stimulated gastric acid output, with secondary reductions in gastric volume and hydrogen ion concentration. It has historically been marketed in oral and parenteral forms for both prescription and over-the-counter use, though many ranitidine-containing products have been withdrawn in multiple countries due to concerns about N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) contamination.
