RanTop

RanTop is a topical formulation of ranitidine, a histamine H2-receptor antagonist, being developed by Orgenesis for the treatment of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) related conditions, specifically genital warts and anal dysplasia. While ranitidine is traditionally used systemically for gastrointestinal disorders, RanTop leverages a topical delivery system to provide high local concentrations of the drug to HPV-induced lesions. The mechanism of action involves the antagonism of histamine H2 receptors on local immune cells, particularly suppressor T-lymphocytes. By blocking these receptors, RanTop is intended to alleviate the local immunosuppression caused by histamine in the wart microenvironment, thereby stimulating a cell-mediated immune response to clear the viral infection and resolve the dysplastic lesions.
