Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Rapid MicroGel is a topical antifungal microemulsion gel developed by Tetra Corporation, containing 1% tolnaftate as its active pharmaceutical ingredient. Specifically formulated to treat macerated tissue and fungal skin conditions such as athlete's foot (tinea pedis) and ringworm (tinea corporis), the product targets dermatophyte fungi by inhibiting the enzyme squalene epoxidase, thereby disrupting ergosterol biosynthesis. The gel is unique for its ability to liquefy at body temperature and its use of penetration enhancers, including N-acetyl-l-cysteine, to facilitate the delivery of tolnaftate to the site of infection. It also incorporates cosmetic conditioners and astringents to dry the skin and restore barrier function. Rapid MicroGel is an FDA-approved over-the-counter (OTC) medication and represents a reformulated relaunch of the company's Formula 7 Solution.
